ABOUT RAIVEN HUNTER
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, I'm a multi-disciplined musical creative specialising in Live Performance (Saxophone & DJ), Music Production & Audio-Post Production
After a formative education at the South African College Schools (SACS) where I was also a member of the Nationals Schools Big Band, I went on to study an Honours Degree in Jazz Composition & Arrangement at the South African College of Music, University of Cape Town
Straight out of school the first band that I joined were rude reggae rockers 7th Son. Thereafter I furthered my experience in major festival performances, international touring and studio work as a band member in South African Music Award winning groups GOODLUCK & The Kiffness
As a recording engineer & audio-post production specialist I garnered valuable experience by co-founding Popsicle Studios: a multi-media production facility that produced a string of acclaimed live music performances showcasing South Africa's best indie acts on Youtube. I produced EPS and albums for Southern Wild, BRYNN, The Steezies, Giulio Beltramo, Ben Dey & The Concrete Lions as well as hit pop singles for Cara Frew & Irinami
In 2020 I entered the field of social impact work by winning the inaugural Rupert Arts Foundation Social Impact Arts Prize alongside my great friend, artist David Brits, with our creative project known as "Tears Become Rain"
The pandemic brought about its own challenges and with that I teamed up with my sister Tourmaline Berg to create Aloe From Home, a series of live streamed music performances from artists' homes and in a controlled studio environment. During that time we created much needed income revenue for displaced music artists and technical workers within the industry and our crowning achievement was producing the 5th highest streamed live music performance in the world on the PollStar Streaming Charts
In 2023, now that live performances are back with full energy, I focus most of my time on performing as a saxophonist and DJ at weddings, private events, festivals & club shows. Highlights have included performing at festivals Sexy Groovy Love: Manor of Magic & Retreat Yourself
As a music producer I plan on launching my solo career and building a catalogue of creative collaborations with South African artists
My goal and inspiration as a musician is to turn imagination into a sonic reality, leave good energy wherever I go, advance South African culture & produce great musical experiences
I am fortunate to be represented by Sony Music Publishing, The Wedding DJs, Get Lucky Entertainment & Cosher Music Services
